ARTIST STATEMENT
I love making visually pleasing work with a function. Glassblowing keeps me engaged in the pursuit of that goal. I’m happiest when I can work using different methods in my project. The fluid nature of glass gives me the most versatility; I continue my jewelry practice with flameworking and expand the parameters of my glass sculpting in the hot shop. My body of work combines natural and man-made materials to appreciate the beauty of natural spaces by creating whimsy both within the home and on the wearer.
My jewelry encompasses bright colors in quality materials that aim to be playful and contemporary. Metals used in my jewelry include sterling silver, copper, and stainless steel. Leather chains give the wearer more range and accessibility by adjusting from a choker style to an opera length.
I’m heavily inspired by the relaxed feel of art created in the Art Nouveau Era. My glasswork often focuses on asymmetrical designs that aim to strike a visual balance using color or repetitive patterning. I try to replicate the feel of plant matter through designs such as marbling, swirls, and irregular lines. When crafting, I'm not trying to hide my hand in the glass-making process but rather emphasize it through pinched vases, leaning bowls, and sashaying cups, giving each item its personality.
